Just touching it with a feather!!!!!!! I think not!! It wouldn't have anything to do with metal clip or the stick that they smack it with, granted there was a feather attached to the end of it!!!

Look fun all the same!

There's a reason why they use a metal stick ;) Because, no one wants thier hand ANYWHERE near that thing when it goes off.

I made this stuff for fun when I was still in high school. And actually, a feather is quite sufficient. This person probably did not have to HIT it with the feather, even. Tickling would have done the job. I have seen this stuff go off by itself on a warm day, just from air currents or whatever.

That having been said, I would caution experimenters against making too much of this stuff at any one time. Once dry it is highly explosive and VERY sensitive. Don't try to blow anything up with it, because it is so unreliable.

But very small amounts (pinhead to match-head size maximum) make good noisemakers.

Further cautions: do not breathe the smoke (it is poisonous), do not handle iodine with bare skin (it burns and is also poisonous), and do not make this stuff in large batches.

Oh... and the iodine stains everything it touches: porcelain, stainless steel, even glass over time. It works its way through the walls of plastic bottles. So don't mix this in your mom's good china cup. For that matter, don't use anything that will later be used for food or even skin contact.

No, I am not going to tell you how to make it. You can find that information elsewhere if you look... and good luck finding the raw materials.
