Why is the Sky Dark at Night?

Why is the Sky Dark at Night?
There is enough luminous matter in the universe to light up the entire sky, even brighter than the surface of the sun, but at night the sky darkens. Why is the night sky dark?

Olbers' paradox states that at any angle from the Earth the sight line will end at the surface of a star, so the night sky should be completely white.. This film explains the critical flaw in this thinking.
